Då har dagen kommit när Steve Jobs avgår som CEO för Apple. Steve Jobs skickade igår ett öppet meddelande till Apples styrelse:

”To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.”

Om avgången är ett resultat av Steve Jobs försämrade hälsa är inte sagt, han har alltid ansett det vara en privat angelägenhet ( förståeligt då rykten tidigare har påverkat Apples börskurs). Steve Jobs har däremot varit sjukskriven sedan januari, så sannolikheten är hög att detta gör att han inte kan fullfölja åtagandet som VD. Tim Cook som har varit operativ Chef har i Steve Jobs frånvaro haft rollen som CEO. Steve Jobs tilltro till Tim Cooks förmåga att föra Appleskeppet framåt är hög och med sitt uttalande kunde styrelsen inte göra annat än att tillsätta Tim Cook som ny CEO. Jag uppfattar inte Tim Cook som samma visionär som Steve Jobs, men han har beskrivits som ett affärsmässigt geni. Steve Jobs nya roll som styrelseordförande ger honom fortfarande stort inflytande över Apple och jag tror att han kommer att fortsätta hålla Keynotes så länge han orkar.
